1948

In June of 1948 I graduated from Manasquan High School and was I ever glad to get out.  There was no money in our family for college so I decided on a bit of adventure before going to college.

During the summer I served as Nature Counselor at Boy Scout Camp Cowaw at the Deleware Water Gap in northern New Jersey.  Once back home in Manasquan I worked at the village soda store and finally, right after Christmas, began my trip heading for South America.
