1961
Early Spring I resigned my job with the Pacific Grove High School and sought employment overseas in one capacity or another. I was hired by the United States Information Agency and left for Washington, D.C. in September for a three month training period.
Mary Ann was in Wisconsin visiting her family during the summer. She got home to Pacific Grove, California before I left for Washington.
David was born 14 September 1961 in the Peninsula Community Hospital in Carmel, California. I was in Washington, DC at the time in training at the Foreign Service Institute. It was a very emotional time as David was born a Downs child. Do we take him with to South America or place him in an institution?
Mary Ann and David joined me in an appartment in Arlington, Virginia where we stayed until we left for Colombia in January of 1962. |
